Nile Swimmers is looking to recruit a  experienced Project Manager in Khartoum, Sudan.  As an ambitious and growing volunteer organisation, we require a committed and focused individual who can work effectively manage our two Project Administrators. An immediate start is preferred.

Job Description:  Project Manager

Overview The vision of Nile Swimmers is to stop drowning.

The mission of Nile Swimmers is to make Africa safe around water.

As a volunteer led organisation, Nile Swimmers now requires a full-time project manager to coordinate our country programme. This currently includes projects with:

  • The Federal and state Ministry of Education to train teachers to be able to deliver our Aquatic Survival Programme to all school age children in Sudan.
  • UNICEF to deliver flood risk assessment and targeted flood safety programmes for high risk communities across Sudan
  • The Ministry of Social Welfare to deliver targeted programmes for vulnerable children in high risk communities, such as those living in the Kosti camps
  • The Ministry of the Interior to train the Civil Defence in safety and rescue techniques
  • Communities who wish to run water safety projects
Role Title Project Manager
Location of position Khartoum , Sudan
Responsible to Senior Management Team
Duration One year, with the possibility of extension
Summary of role This role involves:

  • Managing staff team of two (project coordinator and project administrator)
  • Managing organisational budget and finances
  • Working closely with partner organisations and the trustee and management team to provide direction for projects
  • Having oversight and overall responsibility for projects running to time and to budget

This position will require:

  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent people management skills
  • High level of computer literacy
Description of tasks
  • Managing staff team of two (project coordinator and project administrator) and supporting coordination of a large volunteer team
  • Manage financial planning and project finances
  • Work closely with existing and new project partners to design and implement water safety projects
  • Ensure smooth day-to-day running of the NGO
  • Ensure project progress reporting is submitted to the Management Team (Sudan) and the Board of Trustees (UK) to satisfy donors and charity supporters
  • Support the Management Team and Board of Trustees with fundraising activities as requested
  • Manage the organisation and running of one-off promotional and awareness-raising events
Time commitment Full time – 5 days per week (occasional weekends)
Skills and qualifications Essential

Excellent written and verbal Arabic

  • Excellent written and verbal Arabic
  • Excellent written and verbal English
  • Ability to work without close supervision
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Experience of managing projects
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Experience of managing volunteers
  • Experience of working in small NGOs
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Commitment to work in accordance with Nile Swimmers’ policies and procedures
  • Professional attitude

Desirable

  • Experience of working with UN agencies
  • Experience of working with government ministries
  • Experience of working with HAC
Training and support You will be given induction training into the various aspects of the work and progress on the programmes to date.  You will receive ongoing support from the Management Team.
Salary Dependent on experience
Expenses Where authorised, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
