After the efforts of a small group of women at the World Conference of Drowning Prevention 2017, the team at Nile Swimmers is really excited to see that the first “Women in Drowning Prevention” #WDP36 list has been published today.
The purpose is not a popularity contest. The purpose is to provide an easily accessible list of women who are experts in their field and would be able to contribute to all of the stale-pale-male panels that we so regularly see at large conferences. The purpose is to highlight the amazing work that women in our field do everyday. The purpose is to increase the diversity of voice and opinion in drowning prevention.
We are incredibly privileged to have Dr Rebecca Sindall sit on our Trustee Board, and we applaud her efforts.
We are also very proud to see the inseparable pair of Mai Elamin and Sabrina Kashif on that list. They were the two women who pushed & fought (for years) to get women involved in Nile Swimmers in Sudan… we are now a female dominated organisation, with Mai as the Vice President and Sabrina as the General Secretary, and many other young women who look to them as inspirational role models.
