World Conference on Drowning Prevention – Mai’s view

24th November 2015 - By Mai Elamin

An eye-opening experience at WCDP 2015

I really want to offer my very deepest thanks indeed to the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation for giving me the opportunity to attend the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2015.  This actually gave me a chance to see the big picture of lifesaving around the world.  I was exposed to so many valuable ideas: motivation, inspiration, team work, collaboration, impact, integrated innovation, implementation, building relationships, knowledge exchange, risk mapping and scientific research.  These ideas were presented in a very attractive manner by expert presenters through many different aspects of drowning prevention: research methodologies, prevention strategies, water safety, lifeguard systems, aquatic risk management, partnerships, drowning risk and many more.

It has been a great experience to meet 450 people from 60 different countries, sharing experiences, developing new networks and learning a lot of the latest information about drowning prevention. It feels like these short five days have given me five years of experience. I left the conference highly inspired, and enthusiastic about implementing all I had learned. I’m looking forward to WCDP 2017 and I feel honoured to be part of this wonderful organisation.

Look out for blog posts from other team members soon!
